Finance that changes lives: MK Global Kapital releases ALTERNATIVE’s 2025 ESG and Impact Report

A decade of purpose-driven finance delivers measurable progress in financial inclusion and sustainable mobility across emerging markets

9 June 2026

MK Global Kapital Sàrl, the management company of ALTERNATIVE, the Luxembourg-based securitisation fund, has published its 2025 ESG and Impact Report, Driving Financial Inclusion. The Report reaffirms a decade-long conviction: that finance, directed with purpose, can change lives. The Report covers the period from 1 January to 31 December 2025 and was prepared with reference to the GRI Standards and applicable SASB indicators, with impact metrics guided by IRIS+, PRI, SFDR and OPIM.

Finance that reaches people

Throughout 2025, ALTERNATIVE supported almost 200,000 active end-borrowers and 44,000 monthly active carsharing users across a dozen countries. The portfolio maintained a strategic focus on financial inclusion, women’s entrepreneurship, rural and agricultural development and green innovation, delivering outcomes that extend well beyond financial returns. Drawing on an internal end-borrower survey, the Report demonstrates the tangible difference that responsible investing makes in communities across Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia.

Financial inclusion and quality of life

The data reflects meaningful progress at the individual level:

  • 75% of clients reported an improved quality of life, and 63% reported an increase in income,
  • 45% of all end-borrowers were women, and 40% were first-time loan recipients,
  • 68% of end-borrowers came from rural areas and 62% were active in agriculture, directly supporting food security and rural livelihoods,
  • Client businesses grew their workforce by an average of 1.1 employees, reflecting the direct employment impact of access to finance.

Green innovation and sustainable mobility

Green products expanded across the portfolio, from electric vehicle and hybrid leasing to renewable energy installations, energy-efficient equipment and climate-resilient agriculture. In Czechia, 78% of the Anytime carsharing fleet consisted of hybrid vehicles, supporting cleaner urban air in Prague and Almaty. A structured study into the broader environmental benefits of carsharing has been initiated, with findings to be published in 2026.

Institutional milestones

2025 brought significant progress at the institutional level. ALTERNATIVE’s ESG processes were independently verified by Tameo as compliant with the Operating Principles for Impact Management (OPIM), whilst MK Global Kapital adopted its own Theory of Change to sharpen portfolio-wide impact tracking. Last year, ALTERNATIVE débuted on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange under its Euro Medium Term Note programme, marking an important step in the fund’s institutional development. MK Kredit Moldova and MK Kredit Romania became the first portfolio companies to adopt dedicated ESG policies, with MK Leasing Uzbekistan and IMON International Bank expected to follow this year.

Purpose in practice: people, commitment and the road ahead

Johannes Feist, CEO of MK Global Kapital, says:

“Behind our figures are people like Maria in Romania, who began with a modest wheat and dairy farm and returned to us for financing 11 times as she grew, transforming her land into both a working farm and a space where families gather to celebrate, and Murad in Uzbekistan, a young farmer who used flexible leasing to acquire a tractor and modernise his inherited land into a productive, environmentally responsible farm. Stories like theirs are why we do what we do. Finance, when directed with purpose, changes lives.”

This year, impact is being formally embedded as a strategic priority across the portfolio, with clearer internal standards for non-financial performance and an expectation that all portfolio companies develop their own ESG policies and procedures. This commitment is further strengthened by the Seven-Action Framework, which places people at the heart of every financial decision – from credit access and financial education to community investment and solidarity. MK Global Kapital’s commitment remains unchanged: responsible finance in service of people, communities and a more sustainable world. You can read the full 2025 ESG and Impact Report here.
