MK Kredit Romania marks a decade of lending to small and medium enterprises, having grown into the country’s second-largest SME funding provider. Since opening in Iași in 2016, the company has disbursed loans worth over 1.1bn lei to over 11,000 clients through a network of 14 branches spanning Craiova, Timișoara, Brăila and the Black Sea coast.
MK Kredit Romania is part of ALTERNATIVE, the impact investment fund managed by MK Global Kapital. The fund established in 2015 reaches approximately 173,000 end-borrowers across Europe and Asia, supporting almost 200,000 active end-borrowers and 44,000 monthly carsharing users across a dozen countries, and it debuted on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange under its own note programme.
The anniversary follows a milestone year for the Romanian entity. In 2025, MK Kredit Romania listed its first bond issue on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), a €2mn issuance taken up by 20 professional investors and brought to market by Goldring. MK Kredit, under the leadership of chief executive Andrei Bostaca, is now considering a further first for the Romanian market: the issuance of tokenised bonds.
The company’s growth has coincided with a deliberate focus on inclusion. Across its entire portfolio, 46% of end-borrowers are women, a proportion the company attributes to financing structured around each entrepreneur’s business rather than a standard product. MK Kredit Romania was also recognised at the Group’s 2025 Annual Global Meeting in Uzbekistan, winning awards for the largest geographic expansion across the network and for cybersecurity and threat prevention.
Johannes Feist, Chief Executive Officer of MK Global Kapital, says:
“Scale only means something if the lending underneath it holds up, and that discipline has a name. It is not one person. It is our loan officers and our branch managers – the people who actually walk the fields before a loan is signed. Not funding. Listening, structured as funding. Ten years in, that is the business we are in.”
MK Kredit Romania thanked the partners Agents for Impact, Banca Transilvania, Bank im Bistum Essen, BlueOrchard, BRD – Groupe Société Générale, the Bucharest Stock Exchange, the European Investment Fund, the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, Goldring, Inecobank, Intesa Sanpaolo Bank, Mintos, ProCredit Bank, responsAbility, the Roma Entrepreneurship Development Initiative, CEB, tbi bank and UniCredit Bank.
