In the serene village of Saratak, nestled in Armenia’s Shirak region, Ofelia embarked on a journey that would transform her life and community. Since 2022, Ofelia has been passionately cultivating cauliflower and broccoli on a modest 500-square-metre plot near her home. Her dedication to agriculture was evident, but limited resources constrained her aspirations. Both cauliflower and broccoli are not native to the Caucasus Region and were once considered exotic.

Everything changed in May 2024 when Ofelia partnered with Mikro Kapital Armenia. With a loan, she rented three hectares of fertile land and acquired essential fertilisers. This strategic expansion led to a remarkable 300% increase in production, yielding about 65 tonnes of harvest in the new fields that year.

The surge in production opened new avenues for Ofelia. She secured a significant contract with Yerevan City, Armenia’s largest supermarket chain, substantially increasing her market reach. Buoyed by this success, she forged new partnerships with regional restaurants, further solidifying her business growth. Ofelia’s story exemplifies how tailored financial support can unlock potential, drive expansion, and foster long-term success. Her journey from a small backyard garden to supermarket shelves underscores the transformative power of microfinance in empowering individuals and revitalising communities.
